Chris was born on Mornington Island. He learnt to paint by watching and helping his father. Chris likes to paint stories as told to him by his father, who was recognised as a master painter on Mornington Island. These stories were handed down to his father from his ancestors.

In 1989 Chris and his family moved to Groote Eylandt where he continued to paint. He also handcrafts boomerangs, clap sticks, spears and woomeras. Chris’s work is unique and extremely popular.
