Chris was born and grew up at Yirrkala. Today Chris lives south of Gove at Baniyala outstation, where he learnt from his father the traditional craft of carving birds, didgeridoos, clap sticks and boomerangs. Chris and his wife Janice Durrila stay at Angurugu Community and Baniyala Outstation on the mainland and together they create traditional and contemporary art.
